Default Transmission issue??

I have a 2006 LR3 SE. I don't have any error messages coming up. When braking hard or coming to an abrupt stop, the transmission does not seem to engage when starting again. Meaning it feels like it's in nuetral and revs for about 5 seconds before engaging in gear? This does not happen all the time, but seems more frequent recently. Any ideas on what could be causing this?

I'm not positive but I'd say it has to do with the software/adaptations and the fact that it's a bit slow in finding a gear. I think mine does the same thing if I don't come to a COMPLETE stop such that the tranny has time to think.

Thanks for your response. It maybe the software?? but I am coming to a complete stop. The only time I have noticed this, is when I come to an abrupt stop.

Well sure it could be the software; that doesn't mean it is. How many miles? Has the fluid ever been changed?

I believe this could also be a symptom of very low transmission fluid... although I'm not sure why coming to an abrupt stop would be any different than a "normal" stop if that was the case.

Wouldn't low fluid cause some "funny" shifting throughout the range of gears, though?

That's true I suppose. The one time I was low on my other car, I experienced similar symptoms though. I would give the car some gas and it would spin like it was in neutral, then it would suddenly kind of catch or shift and off I'd go. :P

...it'd be worth checking.

Thanks for the responses. I will check the fluid levels. Something else I noticed, when putting the vehicle back into park, the key would not come out. I now have to put the car in park with a little force. Do you think both of these issues are related and is it some sort of linkage issue?

The new issue sounds like the Neutral Safety Switch. I wouldn't think they are related, but I can't say for sure.
