Default Transmission Oil and Filter Change

I'm studying up on how to change my 06 LR3 SE's transmission pan/filter and oil. Found this
and thought it was pretty cool.

I'm using this non-OEM
ATP B-409 ATP B-409
pan and http://www.roverparts.com/Parts/LRN13754ZF.

Here's the post that I did previously on changing my tranny fluid. Note that I did not change my pan/filter because it had been done previously and I don't think there is any reason to do that before 150,000 miles. However, it gives the steps for refilling the fluid somewhere down the page. Hope it helps a little.

cmb6s, very interesting process, thank you! Can't wait to deal with the fill plug next to the glowing exhaust, while on jack stands. Fun times.

FWIW this was one of the things, like my very rusty control arms, where I just had the dealer do. Excellent write-up by cmb6s previously. For you bean-counters out there I think I paid $1400 for this service (pan, bolts, fluid, sleeve, and several hours of labor). I work way longer hours now and couldn't spare the time to muddle through myself . That said I trust my dealer here to just get it done right.

the 12 month warranty on the parts/labor I do appreciate though. Re: the interval for changing pan/filter/fluid I have heard anecdotally but never "officially" confirmed with ZF that 75k is a good time to do it. LR dealers don't want to touch it before 150k, say it is lifetime-rated (ZF brochure says the same).

Turns out the ATP-B-409 pan has the dang OEM tube that requires lifting the engine to install. I'll have to try and return this and look into the metal pan or a flush.

Or just screw it and see how long these sealed transmissions really last.

$1400... yikes! We get this done on Range Rover Sports and LR3s for about $800. We also replace the transmission connector sleeve at the same time.

ZF does state 80,000 km/8 years for fluid changes.

Pete,

I'll tell you what. Next time I need this done at 180k I'll book a hotel and call it a beach weekend down at your shop . That extra $600 is a lot of pina coladas to work with....

Now your talking! Or a craft beer tour! I'm 3 miles south of the 78 which is also called "Hop Highway" About 15 craft breweries in a 5 mile radius.
