Default Transmission Query

I'd like a little feedback on what some of you gear-heads suspect;

2006 v6 lr3:

140k miles.

Shifting from 3-4th is a quandary, sometimes it just goes in, sometimes it high revs in 3rd and i have to take my foot off the accelerator in order for it to fall into gear.

Are these things cut and dry (transmission on its way out) or could this be something else entirely?

I'll also add, the acceleration power in 2nd gear starts off really slow.

Any ideas would be helpful.

I don't wan to sound like a broken record but I would suggest going to the dealer and getting a software update done of all your systems. If the tranny is still acting up, find the best rated transmission shop in your area for them to check it out and test it. Most indy shops and dealers do not know or have the proper equipment to diagnose faulty components in your transmission and will likely only recommend replacement whereas a proper trans shop can diagnose and often repair/replace individual components in the trans mission that may be faulty for a much cheaper cost.

has the tranny fluid or filter/pan ever been changed?

recommend trying the update, OR reset adaptive values, OR finally get the fluid/filter/pan changed out ($$$).

Transmission shop here charges $200 for a flush using 15 litres of compatible fluid. He said that there are several screen filters throughout our transmissions and that flushing them doesn't affect them ( compared to clogging finer mesh filters in older style trans)

Hmm. Might be worth it to do a flush. Wait for a while before resetting adaptive values (dealer or a GAP tool can do, some indy shops too), see what just the fluid does. If you do reset the values, expect rough shifting for a while as it relearns from factory settings.

I have heard several times now on the forums about this transmission software change but have not seen or experienced yet.

There's more than just the transmission to update... the reason the transmission shop did not want to do it on the Landie. They can access Land Rover's software updates for a 24 hour period for a set $ amount but the owner said it's not as simple as other vehicles that only require the transmission to be updated. Landies need the other systems updated as well in order for the transmission update to be effective and the Tans shop owner said they were only successful less than 50% of the time. I watched the LR tech do mine and it took him a solid 1 1/2 of updating, cycling between ignition positions as he went. It was quite the involved procedure...

You might also have a slow leak. There are a few places where the transmissions are known to leak (like the sleeve for the mechatronics wiring) and if the fluid gets low, falling into neutral is a symptom.
