Trim Acquisitions
Now we’re talking about aftermarket car part blunders in this thread.
19 years on from manufacturing date for some of us and picking up bits here and there can be a roll of the dice.
I’ve used Atlantic British for hubs and brake kits, all of the consumables getting my LR3 up to snuff but I’m having an issue when it comes to aftermarket trim and panels.
Prime example… I ordered a set of fender well covers on eBay and felt confident in the price that I wasn’t going to get a poor product… alas this wasn’t the case and they were almost paper thin and not all of the holes line up… enough to make it work and replace in a few months when I stick pokes through it on the first trail it takes. I made do with that disaster of an order but when I went to put on the new front half fender (again, I thought for being as much as a YPP or shipping scrap yard that I would be getting a decent product and the center tab was broken off and it came in primer gray instead of black as advertised… needless to say, at 1AM… it went back in the box and I buttoned it up to drive without a half fender for a week.
Do you have a favorite place or method for sourcing parts? My attempts on the market place have somewhat fallen on their face at this point.
Share your stories of those cheaply made knock offs you were so hopefully for but can’t help but laugh at after the fact and how you learned to make the best of a bad situation. Haha.
