Default using the axillary outlet

this may be a stupid question, But I am going to be tailgating this weekend and thought I'd plug something in to the axillary outlet in the back. I was concerned about how long I could run a radio or Tv so I looked at the owners manual, which said not to use unless the engine was on. I don't want to drain the battery and not be able to start the car, but what's the point of an outlet for camping if you can only use it while the car is running.

have you use it with the ignition off? if so for how long?
thanks

i have also noticed my radio says "low power mode" after listening with the vehicle off for extended periods of time. I am assuming this means that the amps are shutting down? I also assume that the battery should kill everything if it starts to get low? My silverado will kill everything to make sure you have enough juice to crank the truck if you leave the radio on too long.
