Water 'leak' after new engine fitted
I have a Discovery 3 - 2007 (2.7 Diesel) - and in September 2016 suffered the dreaded 'Catastrophic Engine Failure'. Around 1 year after timing belts / tensioners were replaced the cam belt tensioner broke away from the mountings on the oil pump and good-night - it was all over ! Land Rover stood up to the plate and provided a brand new engine, including fitting at a main dealer - so no issues there.
We had a few small ****les following the new engine being fitted, but a few trips back to the shop and they all seemed to be resolved.
However - about 3 weeks after the engine was fitted I got a Coolant Low warning. It was a bit low, so I topped up and assumed that this was a settling-in issue after the new engine. It happened again, and again - numerous times with the warning coming on and off. The dealer suspected the sensor in the coolant reservoir, so changed it for a new one. Same problem....
The vehicle was in and out of the shop a few times, but as it wasn't a major issue I continued on. Then - one day the engine temp shot up and I had to stop, release some air from the reservoir and top up with around 3 litres of water ! This made me think again and back into the shop it went. They have exhausted all avenues of investigation - and even tried putting some rad-weld in in case there is a small leak somewhere they couldn't find.
We are now 17 months down the road and I still have the problem.
Anyone seen this type of problem.....
Andy.
