So does anyone know how and where this mirror is used and attached? Part number

Google says it's the exterior side mirror....but the picture you show is weird looking.

only images I can find are in boxes, for sale - none mounted on a vehicle

its a tow mirror.

extends your side mirrors to be able to see around whatever load you're towing

Not a tow mirror, its a fender/wing mirror. Mounts to the hood. You see them a lot in Japan on delivery/taxi vehicles.

So they use them for towing trailers to be able to see past the trailers? Thanks for the pics BTW!

That's just asking to be ripped off on the first trail and fugly to boot, see them mostly on Jap imports like the Toyota Surf they were grey imported into AUS.
