You should be collecting that fluid in something clean to determine if it looks dark or not. Dark fluid would be a bad sign of course.

This is how much has connected in 3 hours! Almost two inches in a 4” drain cap. when compared to fresh here it looks a little dark, but it does have almost 170k miles….

170k miles? Yeah... its not so bad really but it would be hard to tell with those miles especially since the trans fluid is gold to begin with, not red. And that valvoline crap is not the right fluids for the trans by a long shot.

I know it’s not the right fluid. The shop put the right landrover trans fluid in, but this was the closest I could get when in a pinch.

No, doesn’t smell burnt. I’m getting prepped to pull it. No matter what, some seal is leaking, and I can’t really hurt it worse than it is (famous last words) so I’m going to pull it and take it apart. There’s some great rebuild videos out there. this time I will make a transfer box removal video too.

I get it!

I tell myself, I’m either gonna break it all the way, or fix it.

alright... i've got an update. The transfercase, is fine, the front driveshaft has broken at the flange to the transfercase. I think i damaged it during the first xfer case swap.

I've got everything prepped and ready to pull the transmission out and find out what's going on to cause the leak. I'm a little nervous reading about potential issues with the torque converter, but tomorrow i plan to bust out the pry bars, slide this tranny out and and see what's going on.

got the transmission off and started the rebuild... it was really stubborn to get off.

here's inside the bell, very very dirty in there, as well as throughout the valve body and clutch packs

I hope I don't need to do this any time soon, but THANK YOU for documenting your progress for the rest of us. Transmission fluid is a good solvent, and you can clearly see it's trail!
