I have also had an intermittent p0171 and sometimes p0430 that started coming back every day. I found a crack on the air inlet duct but surprisingly replacing that piece hasn’t fixed the codes. I cleaned the MAF sensor with the CRC spray and it has been good for a couple days now.
Went to Burns Canyon this weekend, and got a bad spot. Spotter ended up having me drop the vehicle on the running board. Bent it up such that I couldn't open the driver door. Helpful gent tried to get my door open, and ended up popping the trim out.
Two guys ended up jumping up and down on the running board to bend it part of the way back down.
Replaced coolant expansion tank.
Replaced the expansion tank to radiator return and EGR return hose (PCH500153)…. I was a cheapskate and bought a Gates branded one for 25 euro or roughly 1/2 price of genuine. A word of warning: The jubilee clips on it were too tight at the radiator and EGR end 🤯 situation was saved by reusing the old clips from the old hose.
Replaced the heater core. Took a lot of pictures. At T Removed the lower cover and side fascia Removed the lower glove box Same situation but another/better angle Some light Dremel work done Note the outline done with pencil to mark what part is invisible when the lower glovebox is in place A bit more Dremel work Even more Dremel work Sliding the old core out The pipes could be rotated so it was more of a puzzle to get it done in right order All pipes removed. The frame prevented the move. Might have been that removing the upper glovebox first would have enabled the removal of the frame. Didn’t do that, however If lowering oneself it is possible to see a slightly larger opening down under but all in all the removal was rather painless. Reattaching the pipes to the core and the pipe extensions was a bit fiddly but not impossible. . Everything back together. The all the brutality is hidden by the glovebox when viewing from a normal angle.
New rear lateral/toe links. When I did my full front/rear rebuilds with all OEM parts the rear links were N/A at the time so I ended up with AllMakes 4x4 brand. Well they lasted 40k miles. Seems not a long life considering the originals lasted 170k miles. I had noticed the truck wondering a bit and assumed it was my lower steering shaft as that causes a very similar issue. But when doing a brake overhaul I found play which also explains the odd clunk I had during articulation. So swapped in a cheap standby I had until some nice new Lemforders came in. Put those on today and found the passenger side AllMakes also had some play. Once installed I did a quick alignment and took her out. Handling was greatly improved. Off to an alignment shop when they have time. By the way, I did these in off-road mode without taking the wheels off. Not a hard job at all.
By the way, careful if you do go cheap on these. The standby spare I had was new and I think MOOG brand, but not certain. The inner joint is keyed to the frame making install and removal easier and the joint can not spin. The cheap ones are not keyed which just makes things a little more of a pain.
Refinished wheels and put new skins on her. Also picked up a matching rim for a spare. Now time to get new rear bumper ordered so I can carry the spare with me.
