For those who understand OBD2 data, this is for you:
I had a CEL which came on when ever I drove a little more aggressive than normal. I was told that my cats need replacing because they were operating at just under the 95% limit.
no chance in hell that I’m going to spend $3k to correct properly. All I want is the CEL off.
I learned of the resistor/capacitor trick installed on the downstream O2. But now the CEL came on within seconds… so that didn’t work.
Any tips on the current OBD2 scanner report?
im totally lost and love this car and need the light out to pass emissions.
thank you greatly!!!!
My vote is on a bad ECU from water corrosion. Not the Cats. If the Cats are in fact bad and need to be replaced. You more than likely have another issue causing the Cats to fail, such as the engine that is not burning the fuel effectively and fully.
What’s year and how many miles? What else have you done to try and resolve this? I wouldn’t alter the electrical or low voltage systems. These vehicles are very sensitive to their factory set up.

What are the fuel trim numbers(short and long)? What is the voltage / current from the downstream O2 sensors. Still a lot to look into before buying new cats.
