Default Whats the real gas mileage of a 4.4 LR3?

I had a 2000 Disco II and I think the best mileage I got was 15 mpg on the highway.
I had a 2003 L322 with the BMW 4.4 and the best I got was 17 mpg
I had a 2004 BMW X5 with the 4.4 and the best I could get was 19 mpg
Everyone talks about how bad the mileage is on the LR3, I'm curious as to what mileage people get when they put the Jonhson Rods with bigger tires?

I got around 15-17 MPG running completely spec with Pirelli ATR according to the lie-o-meter. Knowing that it's optimistic I'd say around 14 mixed driving.

1. I'm not sure anyone should give a crap.
2. I have been able to average over 20mpg between Seattle and Portland with oversized off-road tires.

Yep back when I had an 06 LR3 I was able to fill up and go, I got it up to 21MPG out on the open road. Daily Driving for my wife was 12-14MPG.

I'm currently and consistently at 12.5 mpg for city driving. That used to be 15.5 mpg when my 2006 LR3 was new. Back then I could get 21.5 round trip to Denver or even Aspen. Honestly don't know what to replace, although I can't recall if I've ever replaced the O2 sensors, and I sometimes think it runs a little rich, but isn't throwing any codes. Currently at 161,000 miles on it.

I pulled the trigger on a 07 LR3 with a 162K. I filled it up and put 92 octane and double dose of Lucas Fuel Treatment. I picked it up in Sacramento and drove it right up Highway 50 to South Lake Tahoe and I got 14.5. I thought was pretty good. Looking forward to getting sorted out. I will make a new post about the purchase.

I'm give a crap because I'm looking for one for my son to move to Montana State to go to college. I just don't want him to spend $400 a month for gas.

...the LR3 is thirsty. That's just a fact and there is no getting around it. I hope your son isn't gonna do much driving. I haven't been to Bozeman but my cousin went there and per her description it's a college town and most things are walkable. The LR3 will serve your son well in all that Montana snow, but yeah it is not a gas sipper.

I get pretty good cruising numbers on highway trips starting at 18mpg on up. During an average work week, 14-16mpg which would be mixed highway and short trips to stores, etc. Of course if one is a spirited driver, you can easily get averages down to 12mpg.
