Here is a video of a leak I have on the LR3. Any thoughts as to my next step to figure this out? I am to the point of removing the serpentine belt. This looks like coolant but could be oil.The water pump doesn’t appear to be leaking.

looks like the gasket between the block and the oil / coolant heat exchanger is leaking. easier to get to it from underneath.

Default Here’s a pic of my leak…

Is this the oil cooler gasket? Circled is the oil filter. Is it coming from the filter? I have been looking for videos on how to replace the cooler or the gasket and no luck yet.

Did you replace the oil cooler gasket that looks like an 8?

not yet but I am going to attack it tomorrow. There are some other people that think it’s something else. I have a hard time getting this vehicle up high enough because of my driveway being sloped and it barely fitting in my basement.

The gasket is pretty easy. You will not have to drain oil, but some oil will come out. Best to do it after it has been sitting a while so oil does not drain back as you work. You can remove the oil filter to help drain oil and reduce weight of the cooler itself. No need to remove coolant lines. I have a feeling your valve covers may have a slight leak and I bet your main seal is leaking. Main seals will leak with age and miles, but one huge cause is the wrong oil, cheap low grade oil (not that all cheap are bad) and pushing oil changes too far. The main seal is not a hard job either, but a bit of work. I have to do mine sometime.

thank you so much for your reply. I watched a video on the gasket change and I think I can do it. I won’t lie though. This is a bit intimidating. I am hoping I can get the truck high enough to work on this area. I have a floor jack and some jack stands but I really wish I had some ramps and a flatter driveway.

I did mine in off-road height. I only use jacks when removing the wheels. Make sure you use the parking brake or put blocks behind rear wheels if you jack anything upwards and even lifting one wheel can cause the vehicle to roll when in park because of the 4x4 setup.
