Default Will Insurance cover it

Was on the way down from Butler Peak with wifey and 3 year old daughter on 2N13C in Big Bear Area, CA when a ******** in a beat up Dodge Durango trying to drift out of a turn came on to us at high speed, being a single lane fire road I had no option but to slam the brakes. Fortunately I came to a stop but he didn't and came and hit us head on. He damaged the front bumper, the reinforcement bar and punctured the radiator leaving us stranded on the forest road. We managed to drive the LR to the paved road which was 2 miles away without the engine overheating....not sure how the Insurance will handle this, any insight from forum members would be appreciated. I am just hoping the insurance (GEICO) won't total it .

The residual value on LR's is pretty high so the only way they will total it is if the repairs exceed 75% of the value of the vehicle. On the surface it doesn't look like you'll approach that number, especially if your airbags didn't deploy.

If it were to reach that point then you could always take the money and get a salvage title. Salvage titles are harder to sell but if you're planning on holding onto the vehicle until it dies then that's no big deal.

Check with Rick at elite auto parts in sun valley. He usually has a few lr3s you can save a ton on parts. Ash at the rover spot is a good resource as well. Bumper grill radiator and maybe the ac condenser. Maybe a radiator support. Good luck. Phil

Oh that stinks, sorry! I'll sell you my Java Black bumper so I can get an ARB.

Yeah, that's the thing about these national discount insurance companies... inexpensive up front until something happens and then you realize why they were low cost. We switched to a local Cooperators and if the same had happened to my truck it would have been in the shop already starting to get fixed...

Not doggin' on ya, just thought it was important to point out.

Hope you get a good response and get things going....
