Default Windshield cowl change

Hi all,

I have an 06 lr3 up here in VA so despite being well-cared for it has seen some pretty decent weather over the years. That said the cowling was pretty badly warped and the rubber seal was cupping up and allowing more water than I liked towards my HVAC intake.

I spent about an hour in my driveway this morning changing the old cowling for a brand new OEM part, and was wondering: Has anyone else been considering this or done it already? It's a surprisingly simple job and can be done by anyone really. The part is about $90 from AB and it shipped to me in two days.

I can give a tool list and some photos for reference if anyone was going to do this swap. It does take some age off the vehicle and makes me feel a whole lot better about the winter rain/snow approaching.

Cheers,

DavC

Did it last year for the same reason. Another thing to look at is the a-pillar repair kit. The rivets from the factory can leak h2o towards the passenger footwell. May not notice it until one day you go to unlock your truck and the fob doesn't work. Here's a link to the TSB. Good work on the cowl.

i pulled my cowel and a pillars, glued the water deflector to the cowel and glued the cowel to the windshield, amazing design the cowel only warps in the 1 spot you don't want water lol

the a pillar covers just put rtv around the holes and snap them back on we are still water free

Ah, I'll be eyeing the A pillar in the near future for that. Mine seemed okay for now.

Great idea Tom! I'll have to get on that.

I might wait until my cowl is worse....it has one slight warp and isn't that annoying to me. Plus, I've had the mod done that adds the baffling so for me it would just be cosmetic.

Default Baffling?

May I ask what mod the Baffling mod is? I presume it is something to do with kind of making the air intake hole down into the heater less of a water drain hole.

When I installed my a replacement windscreen last year, I installed new A pillar covers and a new cowling. With the new windscreen and all the new black plastic, the 3 tended to look brand new from the front.

From what I remember the drill is to take a thin flat piece of metal (think license plate) and attach it so that it channels water away from the place of ingress.

I would not necessarily wait for it to get worse, it only will warp where you don't want water. If it's not bad yet, you can but a bead of clear marine silicone behind it, and press it until it dries, or do it when you fit a new one.

I'm going to see if I can develop a bolt on shield for the air intake, if so, I'll offer it up.

Default Air intake needs its own snorkle!

I think the Australian market certainly needs a snorkel for the heater air intake. It seems those guys somehow routinely end up submerging their 3's.

The marine silicon idea is a good one. Mine has one small warpage spot. If the silicon can hold it, that would "seal the deal." (sorry, couldn't help myself)
