Default Wires behind front passenger kick panel

With my ongoing saga of my LR3 going into what I think is called "Crash Mode" where the flashers start, radio says system shutdown, climate control goes out, etc, is there a particular wire or wires behind the front passenger kick panel or running down the left side of the floorboard that could be of any interest related to the "Crash Mode".

I am removing the front passenger seat and pulling up the carpet so I can completely dry out the carpet which was soaked and disinfect the entire area. Will be inspecting all the wires but just wonder if one would be of particular interest.

So are there no wires or wiring harnesses that can cause the issues I am having or CAN Bus issues?

You need to see which ECU's are on line and which ones are not responding. AND what codes you currently have so you can determine if it is medium or low CAN BUS wore that is broken (if it is a wire problem)

As you can see, Medium Bus seems to be the issue.

Here is what I pulled after I replaced the Cluster (IPC). Changing the IPC worked about 5 days before the symptom came again.

Since that, I have removed the CJB (BCU), took the board out of the plastic casing and cleaned everything. Did not see any signs of water intrusion. I also removed the ECU and cleaned and also did not see any signs of water intrusion.

Battery replace, all grounds under the airbox, behind the battery, and under the front passenger tire well have been cleaned (no signs of corrosion), and contact cleaner sprayed, and tightened. 400amp fuse on the power terminal has been replaced.

before putting everything under the hood back together I replaced the cowling and A-Pillars (at least trying to which is discussed in another thread). The truck has been in a shop ever since I tried driving it a while after replacing the Passenger front sunroof drain and reinstalling the CJB(BCU). Took for a test drive and all the symptoms that started this quest came back (basically goes into "Crash Mode".

The front passenger car carpet foam was soaked. So am drying it out now. Even took out the Passenger seat to make sure I really dried it out.

Next I will concentrate on the wires behind the passenger kick panel and passenger going along under the edge of the carpet.

Was just wondering if there were any particular wires that would cause the issue.

Yes there are. the medium can bus starts at the Instrument cluster pins 17 & 18. and the high speed at pins 6 & 14.

Having jumped 25 fathoms deep into this problem last summer with our 2008, I can tell you it is a painful process.


Next in line for the medium CAN BUS:
Audio control Head unit pins 9 & 10.
Automatic Temperature Control Module (HVAC) pins in-21 &22, out-9 & 10.
Tire Pressure Monitoring Control Module (TPMS) pins in-2 & 3 out-10 & 11. (*left center of headliner next to rear AC controls)
Parking Aid control module (bottom of left "C" pillar) Pins 7 & 14
Central Junction Box Pins 1 & 15.

You have faults from the low speed CAN BUS as well as they show "CAN initialization failure" on several low speed modules.

I don't believe the CJB or IPC is your issue. (it may be but I would put those farther down the diagnostic list as these remedies are expensive.) With the terrain response, suspension, Steering angle, and others show general failure, it indicates no activity is happening on the high speed bus either.


It is interesting that there are no faults for anything down stream of the HVAC unit.

Ok there are a few plugs under the right kick panel that you can look at for the Medium CAN BUS
You should have a good connection between these connectors.
C2240 pin 2 & C2411 pin 13. Trace from Instrument panel through
C2411pin13 & C1165 pin 6 Trace between temp control head and TPMS
C1165 pin 6 & C 0580 pin 15 (on the CJB itself) Trace between the TPMS and the CJB.

As for the High speed CAN BUS:
C0230 pin 1 (at the Instrument panel) to C0223 pin 9 under the left foot well.
C0223 pin 9 to C0390 pin pin 4 (at the base of the left "C" pillar ) This is where my wire break was.
C0390 pin 4 to C0390 pin 6 ( yes the same pug just different pins)
C0390 pin 6 to C0256 pin 31 (inside the right seatbelt housing I think not really sure never needed to find out)
C0390 pin 6 to C2242 pin 19 (under right foot well)
C2242 pin 19 to C0635 pin 57 (on engine ECU)
C0635 pin 57 to C2365 pin 4 ( have never found this connector but it is between the ECU and transfer case ECU
C2365 pin 4 to 2365 pin 2 (These two connectors are between the engine ECU and the transfer case ECU)
C2365 pin 2 to C0508 pin 35 ( at the ABS module next to the brake master cylinder)

Other than that I don't have a clue where to look.

Does "Inlines" mean just wires or does it designate a connection?

What did you finally find was the problem with your 2008?

In line means the wires run to it then on to another module. A simple ohms meter test between the pins on those connectors show if there is a broken wire. Oddly enough they run to the module then back to the foot well.

My issue was a bad wire at the base of the left hand C pillar.

was it a connector? What was the cause? Sunroof drain?

It was wires. They were chewed up by a dirty rotten no good drifter of a rodent sized field mouse named Mortimore. (Actually I don't really know his name, but I do know it was a field mouse that chewed up the insulation).

Broken wire, chewed wire or bad insulation; the process is the same. Once you know all of the wires between the modules are good, next you look at the connectors on the modules then the modules themselves.
