Default 2013 LR4 Headliner Wet After Rain

Hi all,

I've owned my 2013 LR4 for about a month now and we aren't off to a great start.

While the vehicle has been garaged over the month I owned it and has ran great, yesterday I was working on another project in the garage and left it overnight outside in the heavy rain. When I got into the car this morning, I noticed that the front passenger pillar and door panel was wet. I ran my hand upward and noticed the headliner was wet towards the front of the passenger side, near the sun-visor. Water was then coming down the pillar and door panel. The carpet was just a touch wet closer to the front passenger door side.

I guess the clue is that the headliner is wet so the source of the water leak looks to be pretty high.

I can't stress enough how surprised and annoyed I am with having to find a solution to a cabin water problem on an expensive modern luxury car.

Any recommendations on where to start? Thank you everyone.

Turned out to be a completely clogged passenger side sunroof drain tube. Taken care of by local British mechanic. I was in a rush due to heavy rain in the SF Bay Area and needed to get it done right away.

I’d like to take the opportunity to thank Land Rover for this expensive design flaw I never had to worry about on any Lexus or Toyota I’ve ever owned 😝

This is a well-known problem. Search "sunroof drain" on any LR forum. It's been an issue for multiple generations of LR products. It's a regular part of LR maintenance (or should be by any decent independent LR mechanic.)

Curious what mechanics are charging for this cleaning service?

I paid $400 to have both sides cleaned.

The factory manual advises blowing compressed air down the drain lines. Many DIYers just run some weed trimmer down the lines and rod it.

For $400 did they replace anything?

nope, took it all apart, cleared the tubes, ensured that the ends are secured - all labor

I guess I should learn to do this myself in the future and avoid SF Bay Area service cost for this 😀
