2013 LR4 Motor Oil Gurus
Hello all,
I've spent some time doing searches for oil/filter for my 2013 LR4 and not totally clear.
These cars seem to require oil with some certification that my local auto parts chain doesn't seem to carry. Can someone elaborate on this certification and what it means?
I've received two oil change quotes locally which were shocking. The dealer quoted $389 + tax and a local independent mechanic quoted $289 + tax. Mind you, I bought this car to replace a Toyota 4Runner that had $26 oil changes so this is quite surprising. These oil change prices is what I would expect if I owned a $100K luxury automobile.
Good news is that I'm mechanically included and have worked on cars much of my life. I plan to change the oil myself if the cost is as high as I show above but need some conclusive confirmation on the type of oil needed in my LR4 and where to get it for a reasonable price? These 5.0 engines hold 8.x quarts?
Also, what's the recommended oil change frequency on these cars?
Thank you for the help all.

believe it or not, Advance Auto in the US carries a Fram branded 5-20 synthetic that states on the container that is complies with the required specification [it is a Ford spec oil]; bt i do think any good synthettic oil with proper viscosity and 5k or less mileage oil changes will be fine

Dealer and GOOD indie mechanics charge at least $135 an hour. Some upwards of $175 an hour. Add in 8qts of high quality synthetic oil the oil filter and then the mityvac system. and Voila.. you have your prices mentioned above. They are also going uncharge for the filter and oil as they have it on hand and thats how businesses make their money. You can do this on your own in about 20 minutes once you won't he right equipment. Oil will cost you roughly $60 bucks and another $20 plus for the filter. Mytivac I believe is around $120. The V8's take 8.2 quarts.
