Default 2015 LR4 HSE 3.0L SCV6 - AFS warning light

Hello everyone,
I am a new LR4 owner which I recently purchased a 2015 LR4 with 150k on it. Recently I just had the head lights flicker and I can hear what sounds like a relay chatter by the left front door/bottom of the dash. Also when this happens the interior lights flicker same for the center display unit affecting the speaks.

I have read that its related to the auto lighting mode and is a common issue?

any idea what I am possibly getting into here ??

What codes are you throwing, specifically.
Then, get yourself the workshop manual. Start with pinpoint test 1.
Also, reading the section titled “exterior lighting” is paramount as this is an involved system.

Playing musical parts is not the way to deal with this.

Recently started having this same issue, seems to occur frequently when the car is cold and stops happening after it’s warmed up.

Have you found any solutions?

Some extra details:
- Charging voltage during fault remains normal (13.5-14.6v), so any low-voltage issue is local to specific circuit(s) and not the entire charging system.
- Only fault codes for both left and right headlamp swivel motor, I presume this is just logged because the motors lose power momentarily.
- No correlation with steering angle, and no SAS faults/symptoms present as that can sometimes trip the AFS lamp.
- Issue only occurs within the first 10-20 minutes of driving in freezing temperatures, and only if the car is started from cold. If the car is shut off warm and restarted within an hour the issue does not occur.
- Attempted to add supplementary ground wires from upper timing cover to body stud near passenger headlight, no change.
- Checked all relevant fuses, have not checked or tested any relays yet (will update again when I get to this).

Pinpoint test #1 is confirm state of battery.
What that means is:
-with the battery not connected to any charging source for a 6 hour period (no engine running nor a charger connected)
-take a voltage reading. It should read at least 12.6v.
-if it reads 12.5v, charge it. Let rest for 6 hours and take a reading again.
-if it reads less than 12.4v, replace it.

If you pass test 1, test 2 is confirm ballast and bulbs.

Thanks for this! battery test went well ruled that out. I happen to have two known-good headlamp units so I will just swap them entirely to rule out all the bulbs, ballast, and wiring that is internal to the units themselves.

Will follow up with more results as I learn more.

Thank you!

Update on this - Alternator replaced again, and issue has not occurred since. I wish I could say I understand why, but all I've learned is that alternators can fail in very strange ways and cause even stranger issues. Maybe it wasn't sending perfectly clean DC power?

I will follow up in a week if the issue is still resolved just in case it's a fluke/coincidence.

On your vehicle, the alternator gets a queue when to provide more or less power. Some replace with a non-oem version. They typically don'y last s long.
