Default 2015 LR4 V6 3.0 …. Motor Blown ??

What to do now? Nice 2015 LR4 with 90k miles has a blown motor. The motor is out of the truck. Machine shop said they can’t get parts.

what can I Do now ?? Are there any swap options ? Help me out here. I’m in baltimore Maryland . Thanks guys. Maybe someone has a lead on a replacement motor or a good Land Rover shop that can and wants to take this on.

thanks so much

Get a fresh crate motor or buy a good used one. They are out there parts are plentiful what part can’t they get?

Default Blown motor parts

Pistons and rings and some things like that. How much is a crate motor ? I’m seeing like 10k …. Junkyard motors are up there too. 6k -8k . It’s crazy.

Begs the question… how?
Pistons just don’t disintegrate.

And why is the engine at a machine shop? Was it a LR specialist shop that gave the original prognosis?

Facts are, most engine parts are available from my dealer but rebuilds are far and few between as used engines typically cost less than the complete rebuild.

Going to go by and talk the machine shop in person today to get a better understanding.

but I just had my regular mechanic pull the motor and I took it to the machine shop looking to get the cylinders re sleeves and he called and said something about rebuild parts.

how much for a used motor ? Didn’t want to get a used motor and have the same issue sooner or later ….

any advice / help is welcome.

might have to abort if someone else wants to take it on. Nice white LR with 90k miles. Motor is out of the truck. What’s it worth ….

Only what someone will pay for it. If it doesn’t run, there’s little value in it for me.I’ve seen vehicles up here for about 5K, with a non serviceable engine or transmission.

I just went through this on a 2016 LR4. I ordered the parts through: https://euro-amp.com/collections/engine and sent items directly to a machine shop to measure as I let the machine shop measure it up and let me know what I needed for the rebuild. They also sell oversized pistons which is great. I rebuilt the long block. As long as you get the timing components lined up correctly it's overall a straightforward build. I think I have around 3000 bucks total in rebuilding the engine machine work and all. Id make sure you get all new timing gear and have them upgrade the coolant lines to the aluminum crossover tubes and thermostat. Worth the money. I did have to source head bolts as EuroAmp did not carry them. Dealership can be your source for head bolts and you should have everything you need! Don't be scared of the build as it's not bad if you have rebuilt engines. Post questions and we will do our best to help. Best of luck with your decision!

Hi folks. Been on this forum lurking for tips for 4 yrs now. 1st post. Unfortunately it is a woeful tale.
2016 LR3 3.0 w/ 112K miles. Love this truck. Maintained it well. Had entire coolant system replaced recently and all my fluids proactively changed.
2 WEEKS until it is paid off.
Driving home two days ago and engine over heated. Stopped, turned off engine and let it cool. Popped hood and coolant had over flowed all over the driver side of the engine compartment.
Started it up and was in normal operating range. 1 mile and it over heated. Then dropped into normal operating range. 1 more mile and I was home and called my local shop here in Northern VA.
Had truck towed to the shop. Pressure tested coolant system and no issue. Turned on engine to test for fluorocarbons and is at top of scale.
From what we can tell, the head gasket went and sucked into the coolant system and blocked 1 side of the radiator. Literally 100deg temp difference per side on the radiator.
I've called around and the aluminum block is just too costly to rebuild compared to an engine swap. On an engine w/ 112K miles on all the parts.
No idea what the state of the super charger is currently. We stopped so the labor costs didn't skyrocket.
My guys are quoting $10-12K to pull and replace motor after we get a new or rebuilt motor for $14K. All told $25K to repair.
2 WEEKS til it was paid off. $620. And now this. Just devastating. I really loved this truck.
I can get a new 4Runner for $53K.

Wish I had an answer as I really love this truck and heartbroken to see it go.
Selling it for $3K. KBB is only $15K with a good motor. So I'm getting 20% for a great truck with a dead motor.

Best of luck in the future.
Cheers
Mike T
