Adding CarPlay for LR4?
Hi guys,
JLR recently announced that they were finally going to add Apple CarPlay to the new 2019 JLRs but that older versions would also be able to add it. I have a 2015' LR4 HSE and would love to know if anyone has added CarPlay. The biggest functionality I care about is being able to USB plug in my iPhone and have google maps show up on the built in Nav. Curious on cost to add it, if its possible for my model and what the functionality is like.

I just installed Navtool for my 2007 LR3. I have Carplay now and am very happy with it. I wasn't excited about the price, but now, won't be complaining. I am not kidding when I say it took less than 30 min to install. A bit more to finally button up the wiring and make it presentable. All the installation steps are under the driver's seat. There are some hiccups but not really the fault of Navtool. You lose the factory navigation. You keep all other functions of the factory touchscreen. Because you are still using the old factory touchscreen, it is a bit problematic to access the modern-designed Carplay interface. You can't "swipe" up/down/left/right, but it is still workable because the screens always have "arrow" (or similar) up/down/left/right controls. The sound wasn't great at first, but then I realized that Navtool volume was set too high and LR3 volume was too low. Also, I am using the factory microphone (which was always too quiet since day one) and I need to investigate whether the Navtool gain increase will make it work better. It was also very easy to install an aftermarket backup cam. Surprisingly, Navtool already is triggering the backup cam screen to engage. I chatted with their customer service quite a few times before purchase and they were also very responsive. Once while installing the backup cam, I contacted Navtool customer service on a Sunday evening and they responded within minutes with the info I needed (cut the green wire).

This company is US-based and you can only get their equipment through an authorized installer. I called around to multiple shops and it was about $1200-$1400 all in. I haven't done it yet but this is the option I'm going with if/when I do it.
Check it out on YouTube also.

Unique Auto UK ID-Core system. This has received really good reviews on other forums with reportedly good customer support and easy instructions.

based on these and reported excellent customer support, I think this is the unit to go with. I am hoping the tear down in the LR4 isn’t as extensive as the RRS.
