I have new Discovery 4 for 8 weeks, last night it started making air escaping noise when you adjust heights on the air suspension, not hearing noise as it self levels while driving. the noise sounds like pressure escaping as it pumps up or airs down depending on what you do. it has not done this at all for the 8 weeks until last night. it is not compressor noise. it is just like the noise you hear at the mechanics shop when the compressor reaches its pressure limits and opens the releif valve. Is this normal for LR4/Disco 4?

 

Yes, it is the pressure that you're releasing from the springs, for them to lower, being exhausted from the system. It should not be very loud, but can be heard. There were issues with the compressors, exhaust valve is part of the compressor, on the earlier models.

 

thanks Dave, for the almost 8 weeks I have owned the car since new, I was aware of the system de-pressurising, often a quiet noise, like a subtle 'fart'. but on Friday, it is now a loud pressure release, exactly like and as loud as a mechanics compressor releasing the pressure valve. I don't think what is happening is normal??

 

Bring it to the dealer. You still have warranty?

 

I took it back to the dealer yesterday and after I got past the desk person, I got the Service Maanger to come and listen, he confirmed exactly what I had been saying that there was a problem, don't know why the sales person on the phone and the service counter person had to treat me like and idiot and try to tell me it was normal.

Anyway, the problem was that the exhaust line mounting was broken so the air was ezcaping and not going through its little muffler up in the back pillar. New Compressor and all good, did it while I waited.

I cannot truly fault Purnell Land Rover Blakehurst Sydney.
