This info is not only correct, it's also very valuable. Having had both the HSE seats (these are the SE seats in Europe - i.e. base spec) and the LUX seats, there is a considerable difference between the comfort levels so if you haven't sat in both vehicles I'd suggest it's worth hunting around and checking to see for yourself. The base level seats in the LR4 are, IMHO, terrible for a luxury SUV, whereas the Lux seats are excellent. The seats were one of the key reasons I sought out the Lux package.

 

For whatever it is worth, notwithstanding current fuel prices, the 5.0V8 in perfectly situated to the Discover 4. The torque and relaxed feel befit this big heavy beast. It was/is just a shame that LR didn't put titanium or something hardened as chain tensioners and use aluminum crossover pipes instead of that plastic Ford inspired stuff. IMHO, the v8 would have then been rather bulletproof

 

A few straight HSE’s have the higher grade Windsor premium seats. I have a 2011 non-LUX with premium (rumor has it they ran out of standard seats, so ran a bunch with the better leather). Go figure.

 

The 2010-2012 seem to have had more issues with the timing chains but those should have all been swapped out by now.

Same here. Original chains on our 2010 LR4 with 165k.

 

There is not a 'best' year - they are all unreliable money pits whether new or second hand. On balance I would go for secondhand since many gremlins will have been sorted except the crankshaft,, EPB, all the electronics and so on...

 

I personally prefer the V8 engine for hp and torque, assuming you can find one that's had the timing chain tensioner replaced and has had regular oil changes preferably in 5-7k intervals. V8 engine has 375 hp and 375 ft lb, while V6 SC has 340hp and 332 ft lb. Do a search for torque band for both engines. You can see (and feel) the difference.

 

I’ve got the same deal on my 2011. Honestly though, I wish they were perforated like my old D2.

 

2012.5-2013. Hands down. I have owned nearly every variant offered in NAR since the debut of the LR3 (more than my fair share of the original Discovery vehicles too) going all the way to the end of the run with four different LR4 Landmark. The AJV8 is paired perfectly to this vehicle like a fine wine to a meal. It just goes well. The upgraded audio found in the 2012.5-2013 is much better than those offered in the past. The HD package was still standard (iirc) and the Lux did not have the leather dashboard so you do not have to worry about warping, cracking or peeling away from the body. The washer nozzles in the bumper are properly installed instead of held by tape as found on 2014+. The SCV6 is adequate but it is loud, it isn't that much better in the world in terms of MPG. I believe on paper it is 1MPG improvement over the V8 since it is pushing a heavy vehicle and being overworked. The Navigation in all 2012+ is just gross and was outdated when it debuted. It's laughable now even with the newer versions having "apps" that do nothing except bog down the system. In a perfect world if I could take the LR4 Landmark exterior and place it on a 2013 LR4 Lux I would think that is the best of both worlds and I know one could retrofit all that nonsense but it just isn't worth it.
