Default cracked suspension air compressor dryer cover

2010 Range Rover Sport. I have been getting a fault code for my air suspension system and a normal height only warning. It has been coming on about a minute after I start up. Over the last few days it has started coming on after only 10 or 15 seconds. I pulled the bottom cover and inspected the pipes, all was in order. I noticed a slight crack between the two pipe inserts on the dryer cover. I sprayed some soapy water and got bubbles. (photo 1 - bubbles can be seen between the two pipe fittings).

I note that there are dryer rebuild kits. Has anyone ever used one of the rebuild kits. I happen to have two spare air compressors, not sure if it was from this truck or one of the other ones that we have had. (photo 2 is dryer from spare air compressor assembly) Looks like I could just swap out one of the spare dryers and it would be good to go. Has anyone swapped out a dryer on their air compressor assembly? Thanks Phil

Common issue, which is why metal caps are sold on eBay. You can easily rebuild the dryer with a metal cap or swap with another. 250 PSI in that system at peak and it comes down to poor design really. The biggest issue with a dryer swap is damage to the o-ring the dryer slips over on the compressor output. I lubricate mine slightly to help. But if you dry fit, they often get torn and then you have a new leak...

i swapped the dryer with one that was on one of the spares in my garage. Works great, except the one push in tube fitting was leaking a bit. took it out and pushed it back in and it seemed to seat better. No warning lights and the suspension is working as it should. Time to order up a new dryer or metal cap. You can remove the dryer without removing the entire pump assembly. Just remove the one phililps screw,, remove the two pipes and twist counterclockwise about 60 degrees and pull forward. There is a slot on the back end of the dryer that slips over a pin and twists to lock. As mentioned apply a little grease to the oring to help from tearing the oring. Phil

Really? I wish it was that easy on the LR3. The Philips screw is pointing the wrong way so the compressor must come out to access it. In fact I think even the support bracket blocks it. Annoying...

The LR3, LR4 and RRS should use the same air compressor/dryer assemblies. I removed the top sound deadener and used a short philips head screwdriver to remove the philips head screw. You do need to unscrew it from the top side. Much easier than removing the entire assembly. Phil

Update - The yellow warning triangle and normal height only message had been coming one quicker and quicker, most recently, almost as soon as I started pulling out of the driveway. This morning, drove three miles to work (about 15 minutes), no warning and no normal height only message. I went back through my records, I purchased this air compressor assembly two years ago from an ebay seller, chinese hitachi model. I emailed the seller to see if they will warranty the dryer, I am not holding my breath. I paid about $150 delivered. They are currently listed by the same seller for about $175. Lucky8, Atlantic British and others are selling OEM type air compressors for $650 plus. Would I purchase the ebay part again, in a heartbeat. I can get a new dryer for $50 to $60 or a new aluminum dryer cap for around $50.
