DIY Oil Change/ Service Required Light
Just bought a used 2011 HSE LR4 in September. Got an amazing deal on it. Loving it so far. Wondering how to get rid of the "service required" oil change light, for a diy oil change. Searched the internet and see I need an IID tool to clear it. I am trying to just ignore the light, but I would love to just clear it. What is the cheapest tool I can buy to get rid of it? I was hoping someone would suggest one that they personally know works for sure. Thanks for helping a newbie out!

My 2011 has had the "Service Required" notation on since 23,000 miles, am at 89,000 miles, only shows on start up. Dealer wanted to reset IF I let him service it. He has no tech/mechanics with 14 yrs experience, so I told him no. He tried to convince I should use him, then I showed him my service book and said I have 14 yrs experience. Doesn't bother me it's on as it only shows for a few seconds on start up. I do all my own work starting with a 96 D1 and an 87 Classic Range. Been thru these and a 96 P38. Kind of regretted the trading the D1 nice and uncomplicated.

I tried using my Gap Tool, but couldn't find how to clear the Service Required light. I also tried the open door/hood, hold brake and gas for 1 minute, close doors and wait 2 minute routine, it didn't work for me, tried it about 4 times. if you have a Gap Tool and know the secret, please share, or if you know of another fix, please let me know. Using your GAP IID tool or equivalent reset the service indicator.
For the GAP tool only. The process is was follows.
1. Connect tool to car and phone/tablet/computer
2. Select " Service/Test "
3. Select " IPC-Instrument Pack "
4. Select " Service Interval Reset "
5. When asked " Proceed with this Routine? " Select " Yes "
6. You will get a message "Waiting ECU Initialization " and a countdown timer.
7. Then the tool will display " Clearing Faults... "
8. Finally the tool will display " Operation Succeeded "
The service interval is now reset.
