Default Lower Control Arm and Alignment Issues

I stated hearing some clunking out of the front end when hitting bumps in the road. (Here in San Diego our roads are horrible). We had the front lower control arms replaced and a full alignment. I noticed that when hitting ridges in the road or uneven spots, the truck feels like the rear end jumps to the right. On the highway is can be very scary. I took it back to alignment shop They said that everything in within spec. It never did this before. Any ideas? Phil

Did you get a print out? Where they OEM arms? Did the same shop that install them, do the alignment? At face value it sounds like an alignment issue, but it could also be improper install of the arms if they were not torqued down at road height. Also keep in mind it could even be the tires. If the tires were getting worn unevenly by the bad arms, they could be causing issues now that things are back inline and tight.

Thank you. The tires are good. It started immediately after the change of the control arms and the alignment. Control arms were purchased from Lucky8. I assume that they were aftermarket. We may have to check the torque on the control arms. Phil

Again, make sure you get a printout. And hopefully the shop is very reputable and not printing a fake one, should print out with the vehicle info on the same page. And its not about checking torque, it needs to be set with a specific distance form the center hub to fender flare edge. it does not have to be perfect, but if it was all torqued down with the arms hanging all the way down then you will get some of the issues you have as the bushings twist up. I would think they would do it right, being a shop that works on stuff like that. But you never know.

When I replaced my control arms, I took it to AAA for an alignment. The guy got almost everything within spec, but just barely. Said that was the best that could be done. I also had a bad pull and wobble. I took the truck back to AAA and the MASTER tech re-did the alignment and got it spot on, as shown on the printout. The wobble and pull were from a bad tire, which he also found. The Master tech knew what to adjust to get the alignment perfect, where the other tech did not. The front end alignment is not just the micro adjustments from the 2 bolts, but also the macro adjustments of the control arm so the micro adjustments can get into spec.
