Default LR4 overheating after replacing crossover tube- HELP

Hello all,

Need some help, I am stuck here. About 6 months ago I developed a small coolant leak, appeared to be from the top of the front of the engine but it was very small. Every few days would get the low coolant warning. Did some research and most said it was crossover/ thermostat housing tube that runs under the manifold. I replaced that and when I put it back together it started overheating and the heater stopped working. So, next I figured I would swap the thermostat. I did that and same deal. So, it overheats only when driving, it will idle no problem but after a few mins of driving the temp goes way up. The top radiator hose get hot and feels like water is flowing. I did bleed the system when I replaced the crossover tube. I also noticed the transmission feels a little different and shift higher, not sure if that is related. Not sure if I swap the water pump or flush the radiator to make sure it is clear. Before the leak, I had no issues, never overheated or gave me any issues. It is 2013 LR4 with 50k miles.... Please help - thank you

If the thermostat is working as it should, then it sounds like you have air in the system, and the heater not working would seem to confirm that. With the disclaimer that I wouldn't do a coolant change on this engine without using a vacuum/venturi system, I'd suggest you do that or take it to a shop and have them do it for you if you don't have air. Maybe someone has a neat trick to help you but they are a real pain to bleed properly. I'd start there before swapping out parts.

No heat is a dead giveaway that there is air, I'd get it sorted out before you melt and expensive motor

Thank you! Makes sense. I am going to buy a bleeder kit and try to get the air out myself! Appreciate the feedback!
