Default Muddy off road ?s

Our dealer recently put on an off road event so I got to actually play with my disco II and LR4. Disco did great but I was disappointed in the capability of the LR4. Stock set up heavy duty package although I don't know how to lock the diffs. Does the computer do that in special modes? The dash computer doesn't indicate its locked. Also it was super muddy thick clay and it got stuck several times. I would approach a hill then the RPMs would drop out losing all momentum and get stuck. I hit the traction control button and no difference. Dash lighted up DSP off didn't note if it stayed off tho. I do have normal highway tire Brigstone Alenzas which didn't help. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. It was so muddy we had to leave it in the field with another LR3 that couldn't make it out.
Thanks guys!

This. Picture trying to walk on ice in high heels. If the tire can't provide minimum traction even the best setup struggles. Try some all-terrains on your 4. Should be night-day difference.

Good analogy the wife will understand! Too bad they were almost new when we got them so can't justify new tire yet. Although 10k miles so far and wearing quickly.

It would also help to understand your vehicle. Lo-Range, Mud 'n Ruts with DSC turned off would be the way to go, using as much momentum as necessary. Every time you switch TR modes, DSC will turn back on.

...and yeah with those tires you can forget about it.

It was in low with mud and ruts. Traction control was off and couldn't really get any momentum it just slowed down in the mud pit before the hill. Clay was wet and ya the tires need to be upgraded.
