Default Oil level sensor

Why !!? What was wrong with a simple dipstick? Who the heck thought it was a good idea to mount the oil level sensor inside the sump requiring dropping the sump to replace, which I am led to believe with the 3.0 diesel requires pulling axle shaft and dropping the front diff. Is this the same for the 5.0? Any model years better than others for this? Has anyone done this job? Unfortunately my beloved Lr3 V8 got totalled so I'm thinking about an LR4, but the more I read the more I'm thinking this may be a bad idea.

Oh great, Just bought an LR4 with warning that the sensor is inop. Hoped it was a simple screw on to the side of the pan. Again, what was wrong with a dip stick???????

Ahhh, those engineering annoyances…
Of course there are many vehicles now using the electronic oil sensor…. I blame it on all the pretty people afraid (or incapable?) to open the hood.

As you are new to LR, do have a look at the LR Time youtube channel video on this very situation. Just thinking of it has me in stitches.

Happy new year.

Regular viewer 👍 That's where I found out about this problem on the Discovery 4 V6 diesels.

Do you mean the oil level was not being displayed in the service menu of the instrument cover?!
