Replace the second battery & disable the "Eco" start/stop feature?
Hi everyone,
I'm new to this forum, and I have a 2016 LR4. When I took it to the dealership, they said the second battery was toast (the one that runs the Eco mode that kills the engine when it comes to a stop). I asked them to disable this feature, but now I have an annoying "Eco" orange warning light on the dash. Is there any way to disable this system and eliminate the warning light? Would a solution be to replace the battery even if I don't intend to use this feature? The dealership wanted $500 for a new battery and install which seemed crazy. Is this a do-it-yourself kind of job? Any pointers & resources for doing this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Unfortunately there is no way to hide the eco warning light. The only way to keep it disabled is to unhook the battery or leave the dead on in place. It is a simple battery swap if you want replace the battery yourself.
Are you still under warranty? LR will replace the battery for free. It’s on the drivers side right behind the abs modulator. It’s a small battery like the size you see in kids power wheels toy. Don’t buy it from the dealer as it outrageously priced. Most online battery vendors will sell them.
There are no "good places" to buy the battery. It is one of those things that seem to be made just for Land Rover.
Even if you replace the battery, you still need to initialize it ,or basically tell the car that it is a new battery so it knows how to charge it. If you leave the dead battery in, you will still have the yellow light on the dash and it will eventually throw a code causing the check engine light to come on. There is a software option that can disable the eco option but it requires a diagnostic tool to do it. Most LR indy shops should be able to do this for you.
I would up replacing the battery (initializing it too) then when it was in the shop getting the front and rear coolant crossover tubes replaced, I had them disable it so no more engine start stop in traffic and no yellow light. BUT I will need to replace the battery if it ever goes bad.
Also one way that MAY help avoid the start stop feature is to load up the electrical system such as lights on and air conditioner turned up to high. Based upon temp outside it may require the engine to stay running.
Hope this helps.
