Default Stones in a tin can noise under power and power off

2012 LR4 V8 LHD

Had a noise - clicking, metallic speed related like ***** in a can.
diagnosed as an inner cv failure and changed it.
Yesterday did a hard avoid on the motorway as someone tried to take the front off with a lane change and now the noise is back.

Is it CV
Any tests - turning makes no difference
could it be anything else - prop shafts etc?

seems weird to have 2 go so close so what else could be causing it?

the brakes feel warped so I was going to change them anyway.

thanks in advance.
