Default Tire Sizing

I be getting my 18" wheels soon and need to order some tires to wrap them in. after doing some research I am thinking of either running at 265/65R18 or 265/70R18. I don't want to go wider than 265, or taller than 70. What kind of rubbing issues might I have with either the 65 or 70 with the stock air suspension Rods? Would it be best to stick it safe with the 65, or get the extra .5" of side wall with the 70 and risk more rubbing?

Pics and input from mods anyone has done would be awesome!

Default 265/70-18

I run lexani terrain beast ATs. E-rated and cheap. I also installed the lucky 8 SYA kit for insurance.

you will need to mould the fender liners, remove the "shark fins" from the rear wheel wells, relocate the rear coolant lines, and cut off the frame rails in the front wheel wells. Overall, should only take a weekend with the right tools.

What size are you running? Will I have this problem with the 265/65/18 as well?

I run 265/70-18s. It's a little work, but worth it. The 265/65-18s should fit with no modification, depending on tire choice. Some rub, some don't

Hey Guys,
Don't mean confuse the convo, but are you (either of you, any?) using Johnson Rods to replace the stock height sensors? As I understand it, you shouldn't have do any fender flare trimming at all. I JUST bought a 2011 LR4 yesterday and am shopping/researching AT 18" wheels/tires and am also considering the Lucky8 or Terrafirma 18" wheels. Both need and come with the 30mm wheel spacers needed for brake caliper clearance. But again, the 1.5" Johnson Rod set would give plenty clearance, depending on the actual tire you choose.

I run the lucky 8 SYA kit. It has 2.5 inch air strut spacers and short rods that correct the air pressure for the spacers.

I would also recommend tuffant wheels. No spacers and fits our calipers perfectly.

see below for difference: my bronze lr4 has the SYA kit and tuffant rims with 265/70-18 terrain beasts. My wife's blue lr4 is stock with the 20 inch LR rims and no lift

Wow, those TuffAnts look great! Did you buy them on their website or from a distributor/reseller?

I just got my Tuffant wheels today! However I also found out that my 265/65/r18 tires are another 2-4 weeks out due to COVID complications at the factory...

so I’m considering getting the yo-yo open country AT3, or Falken wildpeak AT3W. The problem is that if I get either of those in 265/65R18 I can only get SL rated tires. If I want E rated I’ll have to go up to 265/70R18. If I do get these tires I could have them as soon as Monday which would be great!
you said you used the SYA kit from lucky 8. Would that be necessary? Or could I get away fine with just putting a 2” lift rod on there?

also did you run into any gearing issues with the larger tire? I have an 5L V8. 2014 LR4

Using the rods alone will significantly stiffen the ride. Probably, to the point of you not enjoying the ride. The SYA kit and rod combo keeps the air bags inflated to factory pressure. Ride height is 2.5 inches higher, but you still get to enjoy factory dampening. Additionally, if the EAS fails, your tires will still move instead of being stuffed into the fender liners.

your bigger concern involves an angle grinder--the frame rails in the front and pinch welds in the back are going to need trimming to fit the 265/70's. You'll then need to reshape the fender liners with a heat gun for more clearance. Also, reroute the rear coolant lines in the passenger wheel well.
