Default Tires/Wheels Package

Thinking about selling me 2012 LR4 with 160k mileage and getting a 2016 LR4 with 100k less miles. Any idea how big I can go on tires/wheels if I do the 3 inch Johnson Rod lift package? Any pics out there you'd like to share?

@mattysb27 There a few issues with bigger tires, that still exists whether a 2012 or 2016.
  • Weight is a big one it increases LCA wear
  • With 3 inch rods you limit your suspension travel
  • 3 inch rods also keep your airbags extended all the time, increasing wear and the odds of failure
  • There are also CV angles to be aware of
This thread covers a lot of it https://landroverforums.com/forum/lr...e-chart-93676/

I tend to run narrow and smaller so the 255/60/19 Toyo's are currently ok for but I have had limited time to offroad this year.

not to mention... if there is a suspension inflation issue... you are really grounded.

Do you have a recommendation for lifting an LR4 other than the johnson rods?

I like the question. For more travel, perhaps a smaller sized rod. but you're still stuck in the position that in the event of a suspension failure, you will be grounded due to tire rub on the frame.
With the LR2, I have spacers between the strut and the body support. Haven't seen anyone do that on an LR4, yet. If you go this path, do not forget to do the alignment!

But to be perfectly open, I take the vehicle everywhere. And I have taken the LR Experience driving course. I've learned that I really don't need a lift, its perfect as it is.
Recall, there are two levels to off road hieght!!

@mattysb27 It would help if you tell us what kind of offroading you do and where you are. In my experience people always go for big lifts, and big mud terrian tires. But 90% them never do anything requiring that.

For example prior to my LR4 I drove a 04 Discovery II with a basic 1.5 inch suspension lift, and Cooper 245/70/16 tires. It went everywhere I asked her to in the Pacific northwest and then some. And our club has some seriously kitted out Rovers.
