Fitting the bumper would not be that much work. The common JK Jeep has a bumper mount that goes perpendicular to the frame rail. The Discovery 1 bumper mounts have through holes that go through the faces of the frame rail. A hobbiest fabricator could make something that adapts the bumper so it easily bolts on.

Your main problem would be how does it look?

 

It has been done and there is at least one thread on here that I recall. Be sure to get one that is hefty enough to stand up to the massive weight difference.

 

The mounting width on a D1 and D2 are VERY close to the width points on a Jeep Cherokee XJ. If you went with a DIY bumper kit you may be able to do something for less than whats out there. You may just need to modify the frame brackets.

My buddy has fit a bunch of these Jeep bumpers to different Rovers he and his friends own, both D1's and D2's.
I think he gets them from Ebay or 4wheelparts
