Default Did I get the wrong discovery 2?

I've had a 1996 disco and loved it. Did some small modifications. Using it as my daily driver and weekend wheeler it became unreliable so I traded it in. My situation has changed and I've wanted another one. I came across a 2002 d2 that was a good deal so I bought it. It's going to be a dedicated trail rig with the occasional store trip just to get out and drive. I have put a lift 2" terrafirma and waiting for tires next. Also front and rear bumpers. I'm wondering if it can be a serious off road er with out the center locking differential wanted to do arb lockers but not sure if that would help? Is it the wrong year? Should I cut my losses and get a different year? Looking for advice. Thanks for reading

Check here on the forum, I believe you can add cdl from 01 or 04 or find the whole transfer case from same and install.

you will have to replace your transfer case or at least replace the parts with one from a 99-00 or a d2

The least expensive way to get the locking center diff on your truck is to buy the front output assembly from an earlier DII that had that feature from the factory. If you are interested in a front output assembly or need more info let me know.

Paul, could you send me this info? I have a 2003 and I'm trying to decide if I want to put in a used DL transfer case or do this upgrade by adding the output assembly instead...

The biggest difference is that you can install the front output shaft assembly without removing the entire transfer case. It can be done in situ with just the front driveshaft removed. You'll need to support the main body of the transfer case but the output assembly is bolted to the right frame rail and to the main transfer case with just six bolts. It's tight but doable. With the front output assembly with a nipple installed, you can then either use a DI linkage or one from an '04.
