diff. pegging and diff reassembly
yeah. I think it would be doable diy.....but alignment would be the issue. you could, theoretically, oversize the drilled hole to allow for adjustment in pre weld.....tack it....adjust it....weld it. but then are you going to be squared up to the gear? or is that even a big deal?
I'm not sure of absolute clearance needed Dusty but judging engineering wise I'd say:-
After assembly overall check:
1 Check the crownwheel with a dial gauge for lateral run out. You need the lowest figure possible.
2 Adjust the peg to highest point run out until it binds and then back off 0.002"-0.003" checking carefully with a feeler gauge.
3 Purpose of peg is to stop crownwheel loading whip exerted by the pinion under drive pressure loads.
4 Finally ensure no drag or preload against the crownwheel but running very minimal clearance.
Note: Don't forget to blue off (engineers blue paste) and check tooth pattern on the crownwheel during reassembly by hand spinning the crownwheel.
If problems let me know here or PM.

No probs ls1morethanyou they are as cheap as chips

IMHO it might be worth trawling the ads to see whether you can pick up a couple of used diffs that have already been pegged. I noted one on ebay UK a couple of months ago and it was about $105 or £65.

Diff Lockers, Drive Shafts & Slip Differentials at KAM Differentials
These are a couple of reliable vendors. There are so many it's worth Googling them. Ashcroft are another source including pegged diffs or casings.
I am not sure whether LR hob/cut their own diff gear internals (can't imagine they do these days) or where they aquire them from on contract.
Make sure you install the same ratios front and rear otherwise it could be fun to watch.

.................... you'd have trouble lifting Dusty off the floor in fits of uncontrollable hilarity
