Front Bumper Mod

Front Bumper Mod
For those of you who dont have ARB Bumpers (like me), i came across what seems like a useful modification to the stock bumper. It requires removing the plastic trim from the bumper, and cutting off the plastic side trims. It supposodly helps your approach angle, and it doesnt require any money. I was wondering if anyone has done this or is planning on doing it. I want to do it, but i wanted some feedback before i attempt it. This is a picture of the front of my disco: what i want to modify is the plastic trim on the bottom, anything under the red line would be cut, and the white line would be what was left. And the last picture is of one that has already had the bumper modification done. (or close enough) What do you guys think? (sorry for the big pictures :P)

i did kinda what you are talkin about to my D1... only my plastic corner pieces were ripped off off roading, and then i welded some recevery points to the bumper where the two squares are that are right in front of the frame mounts... i have had no problems with it like it is, and the recovery points work great, but the other day i pulled on a tree that was being cut down so we could direct where it fell and it pulled my bumper out about 6 inches on one side... nothing a big hammer wont fix...

the only thing i would have done differently is i would have cut out the front part of the bumper and welded my recovery points directly to the bumper brackets that go to the frame instead of to the bumper... if i had done this it would not have pulled out on the one side when i applied a lot of force...

Yeah I did exactally what you guys had mentioned, I pulled off the plastic bumper and fog light assembly, then pulled off the two side corner pieces of the bumper, cut it with a jig saw and now i have roughly 6 yo 8 inches of clearance that I didnt have before. The brush guard however still extends down, but all and all I'm pleased and its a very clean look.
