This was a spur of the moment project I decided to undertake today. Total time spent working approximately 2 hours.

Step 1: purchase rubberized coating

Step 2: Clean rims. For the first rim, I just wiped it down really well with a rag. The next four I washed with dish soap and water, and then wiped down and let air dry. The better you prep the rim, the better the final outcome will be.

Step 3: Spray rims with rattle can rubberized coating of your choice. No need to mask anything- just focus the spray on the rims. Any overspray can easily be peeled away.

I applied 5-6 light coats. The first coat was a little concerning because it looked like it was going to leave bubbles, however just let it dry and keep applying coats and the bubbles will go away.

The finish isn't perfect, but the rest of the vehicle is a little rough around the edges so it matches. I used two cans, at $9.99 each. I have no idea how long it will last but it will be easy to touch up now and then, if need be.

thanks a ton! I was trying to figure out the best way to do this. I just bought an 08 range rover sport sc and the guy that had it before me scuffed the wheel edges all to hell! By any chance did you sand them any before applying or just a good cleaning? If you didn't do you think it might be a wise idea?

 

Nope just clean them and make sure they are dry.

I did mine last year and they are ready to be redone. I have a lot of off road time on mine as well so they have been beat on
