Default lack of power

hey i`m reasonbly new to theLR way of life but ilike it. my question is.
i`ve been a ford man my whole life and living in oz i`ve not had much expiriance with the british windsor v8. i can rebuild a cleveland with my eyes closed and know how to get the most out of them i can get over 600hp for under $8000 aus and with a little time could do the same with or close to with the british block, but am a novice when it comes to the windsor, can anyone tell me if i can fit one into a 93 disco and is there a bell housing that fits the stock gear box and transfer case because as all you disco owners know they are not great on power.
i`m sure there is someone out there that has tried this before and i`m eager for any feed back. thanx for reading my ramblings..

The first thing you need to know is the stock drive train can't handle the torque from a strong engine, the diffs, t/case and tranny would need to be replaced.
Second the trucks suspension won't handle the weight with out redoing the suspension for the extra weight, it would be hard to get the trucks weight distribution back where it belongs.
So don't waiste you time.

thanx mike i knew you`d come through so what would i need to do? is it worth going all out on 3.9lt and stroking it or would it be more eco going all out now and looking at a new power plant with all ford running gear? but can i make it fit? or do you know of another option.. i know this sounds like something you wouldn`t do being disco mike, i`m just looking for options.
theres gotta be something out there that i can work with,in australia LR parts are hard to come by...

Where are you located?
If you have access to Ford stuff, start looking at their small diesels, tons of torque and great mileage, I know they sure like them in Europe.
