Default LR3 OEM Cross Bars - How to Secure non-OEM Accessories?

Just ordered a set of OEM cross bars off of ebay for my 2008 LR3. They haven't arrived yet but I'm curious what buying basic attachments looks like - ski holder, small baskets, etc. - and if a specific brand offers a connecting/mount that works on the OEM cross bars, to actually secure the accessory TO the cross bars???

What are you all using out there? Just generic "universal" gear or are there specific Thule or Yakima mounts that work well with the bars?

I live in a mountain town where there is a huge second had market for things like roof mount accessories, but since I'm not in a Thule/Yakima system I sorta just need to know what works or doesn't before attempting to save money buying used.

reference photos:
- OEM Cross bars
- THIS "connection" point (which is easily changeable from what's shown here, but what would you swap it out to in order to make it mount to the cross bar?)
