Default New engine to boost fuel efficiency?

I was hoping some of you could help me out. I'm thinking about selling my car and maybe getting an LR3 or Discovery anywhere from 6-12 years old (part of me really loves the newer style from around 2004ish and on, but part of me really loves the older more rugged-looking discovery). My only issue is the gas mileage! Which leads me to my question...

I really don't know much about cars... at all but is it possible to put a more fuel efficient engine in the Land Rovers? A lot of the ones I'm finding are a pretty decent price and relatively low millage, but I really don't want to spend nearly double on gas (my '07 CR-V gets 22-23 city, and 32 highway).

Thank you

If you could find a way to make it work you would spend so much on the conversion you would never make the money back.

Yeah like Taylor was saying doing a diesel conversion but that's pretty pricey. With Land Rovers you go in knowing that fuel economy just isn't on your side. Lol I have a chevy cruze (which is getting TERRIBLE MPG) as a secondary vehicle if i wanted better MPG it's only getting 24mpg right now mainly highway driving 60-70mph cc set.
