Quick questions regarding 2" lift, wheels, and tires.
I recently purchased or am purchasing an '04 Disco. It has stock 18" wheels right now, 255/55. I am going to put a 2" lift on it before the summer and am going to sell my current wheels and purchase 16" wheels. My question is if I can buy alloy wheels instead of going with steel wheels or the Land Rover 16" wheels? Is it only the cost that I am seeing as the negative? Also on wheel size I want to know if the 16x8 is better to go with than the 16x7? I intend on driving deeper into the mountains for camping this summer. I'm not an adrenaline junky but would also like to possibly go to Black Bear Pass in Telluride, CO and would like to hit trails similar to that. Scary but not extreme I guess you can say. Last question is on the tires sizes. What would be a good recommendation for a 2" lift for moderate off-road and for snow in the winter? I live in Denver. Thanks in advance.

The only alloys that are available seem to be Rover wheels. A 16x8 is the typical wheel, but it can't take a narrow tire. Most people with a 2" lift run 265/75-16's which works out to about a 32 inch tire. That is around 10% bigger than stock. I would imagine the added diameter would be more noticeable in Telluride than at sea level where I live but my truck runs just fine with this size tire and stock gears.
Another tire size that is an option is a 235/85-16 which is the same diameter but narrower. These only fit on 7 inch rims though.

I like the Beamer alloys a lot. I found some factory 16" that were made for the 03-04 Disco's that look similar to the BMW ones (2003-2004 Discovery II Wheel - 16 inch) and for five its going to be a nice chunk of change before I even purchase the tires. I'm going to have to do this in steps. I wanted to go with the 16" wheels for the purpose of off-road driving and cheaper tires but now I'm second guessing that idea. Are 16" wheels that much more of an advantage over 18"? I still plan on doing the 2" lift either way.
I am not sure if the style/looks of the wheel is a huge factor for you but, this style D2 wheel can be found cheap. I paid $75 for a set of 5. I like the 03-04 16" 6-spoke better, but couldn't justify paying the price even used when the 5 spoke can be had so cheap. Keep an eye on the classified section.

Then had them media blasted and then powdercoated. Here is a pic. I just need tires and lift now.
