Default Rear Light Guard Project

I was talking in another post about trying to replace a lost rear guard and after all the talk about how badly they were designed I decided to build my own.

Once again out of old kitchen hardware. I threaded the steel rods with my new/old tap and die that my Granddad left me. The sides will attach right behind where the quarter panel jets back, so as not to get caught on the trail. [Posting tomorrow after they dry and are mounted]

Coating them with Permatex undercarriage spray. The square tube will be capped with ebay square tube plastic end caps.[$2 for 4]

The rods were pretty easy to bend in a vise to the shape I needed. Think I am going to use the rest of the grid tubing to repair the front guard that lost the steel insert as well.

I wish I could see the pictures better. I'll try on computer in the morning. From what I can see they look good!

Somebody has some welding skill! That's pretty neat, all around. Did you have to upgrade your springs for the weight?

Haha.....my Uncle would be laughing his head off, if he was alive now! (Was NOT impressed with my welding skills)

No welding..the pieces came like that. I just bent them into shape with a vice and threaded the existing rods...

Here is what they looked like before ...
