Relocate the hood release?
We have a 2003 Discovery II. The only problem is trying to open the engine compartment every morning as we drive into work (guards don't like it when you get out of the truck while they're inspecting). I've rigged an old badge leash around the release lever and that works, at least until it pulls forward to the pivot point.
Is there a way to install an electric release, or can a different cable be retrofitted to relocate the lever? Maybe in the center console (since we hardly put anything in there)?

Good question i can relate to what your talking about... why is it they make you open your hood every time you enter? Let me do some checking for you and see if there is anything i can come up with!

I'm probably going to remove the hood latch cable altogether and install hood pins. (The handle is broken in half, it's stiff as hell and requires a vise-grip just to pull on it, and it doesn't even latch properly so my hood occasionally pops up while I'm driving.)
Here's the solution a local garage came up with. They popped off the trim piece by the mirror control, used the existing hole in the dash to mount a trunk release cable that can be reached from the driver's seat. The under-dash release still works, and later this can be pulled out and the trim replaced if we choose to bring the Disco back to the States. Now we can stay in the vehicle while the Embassy guards do their inspection.
