Default 2022 Discovery weird key fob experience...starts without it! WTH!

So I was getting ready to head out to dinner with my significant other. As usual, I grabbed my wallet, mobile phone and house keys. When we got to the restaurant, I grabbed the same items and got out of the car and head to dinner BUT noticed that I didn't have my key fob. So we looked everywhere in the car but no key fob to be found. So I searched for my key fob using my Go Find app on my iPhone since my key fob has an Apple Air Tag and noticed that it was still at home. So I tried to start the car to see if it'll start and it actually did!!! So, I turned it off again, waited for it to cycle down, tried to start it up and it still started without the key fob! WTF! I decided to go ahead and lock my Discovery with my Remote App and head to dinner. After dinner, we unlocked the car using the Remote App and tried to start the car. And luckily it started without the key fob. When we got home, I ran in the house and found my key fob sitting on the key ring where I originally left it.

Is this a glitch in the software of the vehicle? Has anyone else experienced this with their Land Rover vehicle? Please share your experience.

Where is your second keyfob?

The key module cannot start the car without an active key in there. So it's possible you have a technical glitch (but I've not heard of that for starting the car - clearly a security issue). Or the second key is somewhere on your person, in a pocket or bag etc

Update: Well this entire time I've had the activity key in the center box under the beverage tray. Duh!

I considered getting an activity key when I bought the car but it was my understanding that you had to have both the key fob and activity key present. If you can leave the fob at home and just use the activity key I might get one. Could somebody enlighten me please?

You have to have the normal keyfob with you to drive the car. But you leave the keyfob inside the car and lock the car with the activity key. That disables the keyfob in the car so you only carry the activity key
When you get back to the car the activity key unlocks it (and reactivates the keyfob). You then use the fob as usual to drive the car

I have the activity key in the glove box but have never paired it yet... This begs the question as to how the OP above was able to start the car with just the activity key when the fob was left at home?

Thank you BritCars, as I thought obviously the OP had a glitch.

Yes - agreed. Either a glitch or more likely the second key fob is somewhere inside the car.
