Came in a week early.
21" wheels. Charente grey. My wife on first seeing it, "oh... it's brown." No it's not dang it.... or is it???
So of course this being a JLR product something doesn't work.
They can't get it to register on the InControl servers, so stuff like the Remote app won't function. The dealer tried three times, I tried twice at home (there is a hidden button near the sunroof controls to activate it). The mobile data works, it's just the VIN won't register. The dealer said it's not the first time they've encountered this (Defenders) and the problem is usually JLR's. I can still log in to my account manually in Pivi Pro in the car and it's recognized on the account (car app version data shows up), just no VIN associated with it. Hopefully they can get it straightened out this week without having to go back to the dealership. My guess is it's just a missing database entry somewhere.
Oh, I also ordered an activity key (the new fancy one with a display). I was promptly handed a piece of paper acknowledging that I will receive the key later in the year when they can get chips to make it.
goodbye old 2017 diesel TD6 and your fantastic MPG.
Looks awesome! Would love to know what your thoughts are on the P360 once you get acquainted to your new ride!
How long did it take from you ordering it to delivery?
around 4 months. I got in at the very beginning of the 2022 order cycle (I actually waited for '22's in case there were any engine changes, which there weren't). the build and delivery was much faster than I expected it would be, though they went straight from 21's to 22's with no tooling changes so there was little delay.
problem is now they have the chip shortages and it's effecting a lot of options.
Other than the activity key, what options had you ordered that you didn't receive?
thanks
luckily I got everything I ordered. (including the rubber mat options, I tried Weathertech on the last vehicle, but they look like crap after a while)
my dealer just tells prospective buyers currently what they can and get can't get. it's a frustrating time for them, they can roughly only get 2 D5's per month as lot cars for inventory and they all are snapped up quickly (by people who realize the shortcomings of the Defender ).
the one thing I couldn't order, which still mystifies my dealer, is Configurable Terrain Response. Because I spec'd the Tow Package with Advanced Tow Assist, one couldn't get CRT, they aren't compatible options on the D5. I've asked JLR support about it many times and they just hem and haw. It's not an issue on the Defender though, one can have both, which makes it even more strange.
Looks beautiful! I had an issue with my 2019 and had luck contacting 800-FIND-FWD. It's like a corporate customer contact center in NJ, I believe. They will open a case and fwd it to the right department. For something like your activation, I agree -- something isn't loaded into a database and I think that will get you want you need faster than your dealership.

Argh... still can't get the D5 to register itself to the InControl servers. Spoke to their tech support people this morning (the people who actually look at the communication logs ) and they said it's likely the TMU (telematics unit) isn't functioning correctly and either needs to be reprogrammed or replaced. All the mobile data stuff is working, it's just the car won't identify itself. Need to have a tail light trim piece replaced anyway in a few weeks (it's delaminating and new one on order from the UK) so I'll likely have them diagnosis it then.
Edit: didn't know this before but just spoke to the dealer and they said they did already check the TMU when they tried to get it to register and no error codes were shown on it. Hmmm.
Nice looking D5, I got my 2021 at end of March. It sounds like you may have an issue on the vehicle side with the InControl? I traded in a 2017 range for my new car, so when I got this one up and running I had problems opening the ap on my phone... until I uses the OLD InControl app I still had downloaded. For some reason the new one won't load. Doesn't seem this is related to your issues? But to initialize try using the old ap? Honestly in the range it never worked well, whereas my wife's volvo always connect flawlessly.
Ours appear similar spec, I recommend the black lug nuts they offer... I have since added the mud flaps they were not in stock when it came in.
I just completed a 1500mile weekend to obx and was surprised that this vehicle rides better than my 2017 range as far as smoothness and composure.
