255/55 R20, A/T tires Falken v. BFGoodrich v. Toyo
Hi Everyone,
Looking for some A/T tires for my 2022 Discovery 5. The stock tires are mediocre offroading and need something better with winter fast approaching. I went to Tire Rack and the only options available for the 255/55 R20 are the BF Goodrich Trail Terrain T/A, Falken Wildpeak A/T Trail, and Toyo Open Country A/T III. FWIW, I like the Falken's higher UTQG of 680AA. The speed rating isn't relevant considering the Discovery 5. Mostly on-road pavement use with some fun offroading and muddy situations with horses.
Experiences? Thoughts?
Thanks!
Matt

Many other tires to choose from in that size and type.
I run Yokohama G015. Cooper also has an all terrain that size. BF Goodrich K02. Discount tire has their own brand in that size. And I think there's a General in that size.

Very happy with my Yokohama G015's.
Very quiet and smooth ride. Tough enough for some heavy duty rock crawling I did in the San Juan mountains (Colorado).
They also have the snowflake symbol so are snow rated. I've never had any slippage in snow yet.
Not sure yet how many miles I'll get out of them. If I base it on the amount used so far for the distance traveled they won't go 40K for sure.
But I suspect the wear rate slows down a bit as the miles increase so I'll have to wait and see.

I'm sorry, I didn't catch your tire size. Many of us are running 275/55 R20 and that's what my Yokohamas are.
You should be able to run that size with no rubbing (but I do have the 1.5 inch lift rods).
Lots of tire choices in that size.

255/55/20 is 280.5 mm plus 20 inches = 11.04 inches plus 20 inches = 31.04 inch diameter.
275/55/20 is 302.5 mm plus 20 inches = 11.91 inches plus 20 inches = 31.91 inch diameter.
31.91 divided by 31.04 = 1.028 = an increase of only 2.8 percent.
Varies a little by tire manufacturer.
If you choose 275/55/20 instead of the stock size 255/55/20 you will increase your tire diameter by about 7/8th of an inch.
And you will open up a lot of tire choices since 275/55/20 is used on numerous GMC trucks and SUV's (and likely other manufacturers)

I'm running Mickey Thompson Baja Boss AT's 275/55/20... I love them! They are my off-road and winter tires on the OEM wheels. My OEM tires are on RR Sport wheels I bought for the rest of the year. No rubbing and no problems.
+2 on the 275/55/20 Yoko G015s. We are at 33K and they have plenty of life left. We have been VERY pleased with these tires. Only thing they do not do well is unload gooey mud but a lot of tires short of actual "mudders" have that problem. Cooper AT3s on my Taco have the same problem. If we keep ours, post lease, I intend to get another set of Yokos unless they are discontinued.
There are MANY more options if you go 275.

Hi. These tires look great and I'm considering them (along with some other great options suggested on this forum). Would you recommend for year-round use and how are they on highways in the rain? Thanks!
