Default Air pump replacement

Has anyone replaced one themselves or even know where it is located? The dealer wants $2k to replace and 3rd party sources are $600 for the part. Have purchased the manual from Manual4you but it is 34,000 pages and a search for “air pump” finds nothing.

Retired shade tree mechanic who enjoys working on his old Lotus as but that car requires a manual that is only 300 pages!

Is the vehicle outside the warranty already?

Four years old and out of warranty? How many miles. Thought the air system would last longer than that.

yes. Almost 70k mikes in 3+ years

The dealer says this isn’t rare, and a search on the inter web confirms a long history of air compressor issues in any car of any make with them. Fortunately lots of videos on repairs, although not for the D5 yet.

About 10 years ago maybe (I forget) a friend had an Audi A8 whose compressor went out just shy of 3 years. I thought they’d gotten better by now as I see less talk of them and many people with over 10 years on the same compressor...

I bet you could rebuild that old one to install after the next new one craps out.
