Default Battery Replacement Question

I'm expecting to have to replace the battery this year. It's an easy job and I plan to get an Odyssey 49 950. Does disconnecting the battery affect (as in dump or zero out) any vehicle computer settings?

Clock time/date. And sometimes the electric window stop limits (for one touch open/close). Both easily reset

Doesn't seem to lose things like radio favorites etc

Why would a 2017 Discovery need a new battery?
If it is failing there might be a separate battery warranty other than the D5 vehicle warranty.
I can often go 6 or 7 years on a battery then change it while it's still working fine but as a preventative measure.

Las Vegas summers are the kiss of death to vehicle batteries. Standard battery life here is 4 years, no matter how good it is. Purchasing an expensive battery with a long warranty will get you one replacement battery but the warranty only applies to the purchased battery, not its replacement.

That said, the D5 battery is still strong and I use an Odyssey 20 Amp charger to maintain it at peak levels, given its age (I have two Odyssey batteries in my diesel truck). The D5 battery may surprise me and last a lot longer.

Batteries in general have a 3-5 year lifespan. Depending on where you live and how you drive it's +/- that.

Heat is a bigger killer of batteries than cold. Though cold tends to reveal the damage done.

I was wondering about my 2017 Disco battery as well, so I checked the Repair Manual. It says if a new battery is installed:
  • Using Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment, reset the battery monitoring system (BMS).
  • Reset electric window one-touch facility. Power window up to hard stop, release switch, reapply and hold for 1 second, (relay in door will click). One touch should now work.
  • Using suitable Land Rover diagnostic equipment calibrate the electric park brake and tailgate.
  • Check the clock and navigation settings.
  • Enter the audio unit preset radio frequencies.
I figured I might side step this by hooking up a "booster battery" to the jump start terminals so everything stayed powered up while changing out the old battery. This wouldn't reset the BMS; not sure what impact this would have.

I haven't found a battery supplier that lists a battery that fits the 2017 Disco... Manual says the battery spec is: AGM type, 90 Ah, 850 CCA, Reserve capacity 150 minutes.

I went with the Interstate MTX-49/H8 900cca 160 reserve AGM

I didn't do anything special. just swapped it out.

I seem to remember watching a YouTube video that suggested updating the battery monitoring system on modern cars was an important step for correct charging, although I don’t know if there is any truth in it...

BMS will update itself over time. It periodically recalibrated with the battery. I've never reset it and never had an issue. Most of the other items (tailgate, parking brake) seem to readjust by themselves. Just need clock and windows in my experience
