Hello everyone.
I have a huge interes in buying a discovery 5, preferably the 3.0 v6 diesel 2017 or newer.
I have read allot of reviews on different forums about the engine failure, more exactly the crankshaft problem.
It's this still an actuall problem, or it was solved.
I like the car allot but I can't close my eyes on a risk like this.
Thanks

If you think it could happen to a D5 (from googling the problem seems to stem from assembly and there’s no guarantee JLR will have gotten on top of it given that D5s built 2 years after leaking windshields were discovered are still experiencing the problem) then personally I’d ensure the vehicle is covered by a JLR warranty.
so if you’re buying a new one, then you don’t need to care for the next 4 years and can extend the warranty to 7 at any time.
If you’re buying a used one make sure it’s CPO’d to that 7 year mark and only keep it as long as the warranty lasts.
Finally, abs I know this isn’t a popular opinion on here, I’d ask yourself if you actually need (vs want) a diesel and if it matches your use case. I liked the idea of one but it didn’t match my use case so I read about potential issues and went with the gas v6 which I do not regret.

I don't want to buy a new one.. But I'm thinking on 2018 maybe 2019...so still under warranty. And try to buy from LR dealers.
I'm not excluding the petrol engine but here in Europe I have more diesel to choose from.
The other thing that holds me back is the fuel usage. All the reviews say it consumes significantly more than the diesel.
Also in Europe, petrol is significantly more expensive that diesel, around 20 eurocent /liter
My early millage is around 20-25 k
I'm curious to find our from you guys who owns petrol version... What's the fuel average.
We have also an option to mount Gas on the car. Than I can use both.. Petrol and gas...

Ah, I didn’t realize you were in Europe.
I’m originally from the Uk so I know how fuel prices go...
I have the petrol v6 supercharged and it gets about 24mpg (29mpg UK) on long trips but around town (being 40mph but lots of stop starts due to red lights rather than roundabouts) it gets about 20mpg (24mpg UK) but I have seen it drop lower on spirited short trips.

I get the same as LoneStar in my V6 petrol supercharged.
You should run the calcs. You are prob burning 6000 euro annually at petrol prices in Europe. Maybe 1000-1300 euro less in diesel. But diesel car can be more to buy (at least here in US). So my guess is on a 60k euro car you're prob pretty marginal difference
Personally I think the much greater HP output of the petrol engine is a better driving experience. But if you're towing you might prefer the torque of the diesel
