Default CA buyer | Looking at a UT CPO D5 TDv6

Hello folks,
It would appear I'm getting a fairly good deal on a CPO 2020 D5 Diesel.
The carfax and pictures seem in good shape.
However I'm not sure if I should be worried about rust due to salt use in Utah.
Would a 3yr service life in those conditions be a deal breaker for you? Is this something I should be worried about?

Thank you for your guidance.
here's an AT link: https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-...ngId=693306756
If you have recommendations on extended warranty to purchase, I'm all ears.

Thank you,
-Adam

How will you use it? Short trips will be trouble.

primarily targeting road/camping trips with the family. I have a cheap n cheerful VW for daily commute already.
  • what would be considered a short trip for this motor?
  • shall I be worried about rust, on a 3yr old Utah vehicle?
  • 21" wheels seem way too large, I'm hoping to switch to 19" OEMs. Would a RR Sport wheel (part LR037742) fit the discovery?
Thank you!

less than ten miles daily is what I consider short trips.
Oil change 7-8K not 16K Rock auto has all maintenance parts cheap.

19" will more than likely fit, a lot of tire/wheel talk on the forum. do a search.

I don't know about Utah rust.

Good luck

.

First off, I really appreciate you sharing your knowledge, thank you!
I consulted with a seemingly forum trusted SoCal LR workshop; they didn't seem worried about 3yr service life in UT.
Found an offerup listing for a 19" OEM set ($300) in my city itself. I will ping the seller.
My office commute is 20mile each way, but I'd probably use the D5 for much longer trips.
Cheers good sir!

IMO I think the 20's are the best factory wheel size look good enough and plenty of offroad tire combinations for them. I live in Canada so rust isn't really a big deal mine is a 2019 one place I noticed to rust is under the fuel tank other than that your pretty much set.

Where in CA are you located (I'm in Las Vegas)? I have a set of 20" OEM wheels (including a full-size spare) with the original tires still on them (first picture). I swapped them at 16,759 miles for a set of 285/50-20 Nittos on 9.5" x 20" Redbourne wheels (second picture). Make me an offer for the OEM wheels if you might be interested in coming to get them. I'll even throw in a set of new Johnson Rods, which I didn't need to install since I have no clearance problems with the Nittos and didn't need the lift.

Those Redbournes look so sharp
Vegas is a feasible 3hr drive from my location; A full set would indeed be helpful.
I'll DM you once I take delivery of the D5. Thanks everyone for making me feel welcomed in the LR community, it's very much appreciated.

Btw how is the underbody protection on these vehicles? I've gone camping with a friend in his 4Runner OffRoad, and every once in a while his underbody bash plate takes a decent hit from the debris.

On the salt question I'm in MA and drive my 2018 through the winter in salt / snow etc. They use a lot of salt here in winter. No rust issues on my 5-year old car. And I had a 10 year old Discovery LR4 before this without rust issues either
Worth noting a lot of body panels are aluminium so won't rust. Tailgate is actually a plastic.
